As the first golden leaf falls from the dark green canopy this week we feel the shimmers of impending season change and can feel torn between conflicting pulls on our time and heart.  Feel the pull between what we want and our responsibilities, or between savoring a lingering sybaritic summer moment, and urgent actions needed for our future. Stop feeling torn and time share or mediate between the people and the needs. Make the work joyful obligations. Mix what is needed in the moment with a healthy investment in the future. Because it could be a busy year, and can be productive if we fill our reserves, position ourselves well, and respond to urgent calls now.

Jupiter recently entered Virgo (8/12/15-9/9/16) where it will be for the next year. Jupiter symbolizes what frees us, expands our horizons, and also what we overdo or overindulge; it’s larger than all the other planets in the solar system put together. Jupiter in Virgo tells us that our work can set us free, and reminds us that there is no greater gift than good health. Mercury is already in Virgo, and the Sun enters Virgo on Sunday, calling us to an industrious self-improvement program, loaning us that ability to sort, learn, digest and absorb, harvest and heal which we need every autumn.

It is one of life’s humors quirks that students are drawn back to school every year under this industrious Sun in Virgo quality, when they are most ready to learn but most miserably self-conscious and self-critical, one of Virgo’s shadows. Venus and Mars, the two planets that symbolize our social-emotional milieu, are still in Leo and aren’t really into this whole autumnal back to work approach. They infuse our personalities with panache and can help us create new communities at work and school, but can leave us lingering over brunch and dragging our feet when it’s time to buckle down to work.

But this combination has gifts—as we enter the fall fray it’s important to make those new human connections. The busier and harder working we become, the more important it is to share appreciation with our beloveds, help new acquaintances feel appreciated, and keep our soul involved and our optimism engaged; Venus and Mars in Leo can help.

As Friday dawns we may be uncomfortably aware of problems, obstacles, limitations, notice what we’re lacking or what we haven’t done yet as the Sun forms challenging aspects to both Saturn and Pluto under a Scorpio Moon. Difficult decisions need to be made, and people who are trying to prove themselves, political candidates for instance, may unpleasantly try to wield power. The key to using these aspects positively will be to stay self-responsible, ask ourselves what can we do to make our lives better instead of what do other people need to do to change our life. Let’s not take it out on others if we delayed or waited too long and are just now buckling down to take advantage of an opportunity.

The mood shifts Saturday and Sunday, becomes more sociable and celebratory as the under a lighthearted and curious Sagittarius Moon. It stays upbeat if a little nervy on Sunday as the Sun enters Virgo and buckles back down to work on Tuesday as the Moon enters competent Capricorn and Mercury sextiles industrious Saturn next week. It’s time to get our ducks in a row, pencil boxes pencils sharpened, and organize, organize, organize.

And if we organize now, then as the Sun conjuncts expansive Jupiter and Mercury enters egalitarian, friendly Libra next Thursday, will be ready to connect with our community and network future possibilities in a good way.

Friday, August 21: The mood can be a little pompous but hard-working this morning as the Sun squares Saturn under a Scorpio Moon. We may want to get lost deep within this morning, and have strong ambiguities about dealing with people. We can get snappish or willful because we’re suddenly aware of and anxious about efforts we need to make in the future. But we can turn this frustration into action if we stay self-responsible rather than blame others for our discomfort. A stubborn streak and strong approach-avoidance conflicts continue around being sociable tonight. It may be better to do to watch a movie together or do something in tandem, rather than try to interact.

Moon sextile Pluto 5:57 AM, Sun sesqui-quadrate Pluto 9:17 AM, Moon square Venus 5:13 PM, Sun squares Saturn 5:40 PM, Moon trine Chiron 7:34 PM, Moon quincunx Uranus 7:41 PM

Saturday, August 22: In an otherwise fixed, inflexible day, uncertainty can creep in, but instead of second-guessing what we’ve already done; let’s investigate new possibilities that might bring an improvement. We may want to puddle around in our interior world this morning and resent outside demands. Midday, seriousness brings focus as the Moon conjuncts Saturn, then optimism aerates the afternoon as the Moon enters Sagittarius, suddenly we’ll want to speak up and get out on the town, though we’ll tend to argue over attitude and philosophy tonight as Mercury semi-square Mars.

Moon sextile Mercury 12:57 AM, Mars quincunx Neptune 4:21 AM, Moon semi-square Pluto 6:49 AM, Moon conjunct Saturn 12:01 PM, Moon square Sun 1:30 PM, Moon enters Sagittarius 2:40 PM, Moon square Jupiter 7:30 PM, Mercury semi-square Mars 10:29 PM

Sunday, August 23: We begin harvest season as the Sun enters Virgo this morning. Although we may feel just as lazy as the Moon squares Neptune, maybe we feel a little bit guiltier about resting. A fresh layer of honesty without an edge can create an opening in family matters. Prioritize health, sorting, organizing, rather than busyness. Leave room for sweetness of the soul this afternoon, and take an opportunity to laugh at oneself.

Sun enters Virgo 4:37 AM, Moon square Neptune 7:08 AM, Moon trine Mars 8:37 AM, Moon semi-sextile Pluto 3:44 PM,

Monday, August 24: Check in and socialize rather than push the work forward. Stir the pots, observe, and make connections. Begin to let go of the summer community and reconnect with the fall tribe. Animal health and animal rights need attention today, even if it’s just taking a dog to the dog park. Tonight the Moon enters Capricorn and we ache a bit, but begin to get serious and plan farther ahead. If this mood oozes into depression, find one small task, accomplish it, and celebrate the progress.

Moon trine Venus 12:09 AM, Moon trine Uranus 4:34 AM, Moon square Mercury 4:03 PM, Moon enters Capricorn 10:21 PM,

Tuesday, August 25: This is an important business day to get down to work and get organized. It’s also a strategic day; watch what offers come in what challenges arise in the headlines and at home and get a peek at the agenda to come. Initiate steps for long-term goals. Morning’s enthusiasm as the Moon trines Jupiter may become daunted by an awareness of the depth of the work needed this evening as the Moon conjuncts Pluto and squares Saturn. Investigate motive, then rest rather than worry.

Moon trine Sun 1:34 AM, Moon trine Jupiter 3:44 AM, Moon quintile Chiron 12:31 PM, Moon sextile Neptune 1:31 PM, Moon conjunct Pluto 9:33 PM, Moon square Saturn 10:30 PM,

Wednesday, August 26: Opportunities are popping today, if one doesn’t stumble into your life, created as the Sun conjuncts Jupiter in industrious Virgo while Mercury sextiles competent Saturn. Sign contracts. But let’s only say what we really mean, as our words count now. Show people they are loved by working with them or respecting their work. Have a solution for the problem at hand, and get the job. Problem solve together. Don’t worry about the theory, take a very pragmatic approach for the moment, and explore the theory in the next few days.

Moon sextile Chiron 9:10 AM, Moon square Uranus 9:25 AM, Mercury sextile Saturn 10:07 AM, Moon semi-square Neptune 3:14 PM, Sun conjunct Jupiter 4:02 PM.

Thursday, August 27: The mood and are thinking relaxes a bit, becomes more sociable and interconnected as Mercury enters egalitarian, interested, and more relaxed Libra as the Moon enters sociable Aquarius. Engage teamwork or find out how to work with the teams around. Contemplate the theory behind pragmatic actions. We may be less focused on the details, less touchy on the heart, but can speak with straightforward diplomacy through the day. Late night can bring a stubborn ego clash unless we give one another room as the Moon opposes Mars.

Moon sextile Saturn 12:01 AM, Moon trine Mercury 1:19 AM, Moon enters Aquarius 2:03 AM, Mercury enters Libra 9:44 AM, Moon opposes Mars 10:24 PM

Strange feeling swirl. Our efforts at communication can be both magical and way off base. Wild weather challenges transportation in many parts of the country. Our minds drift to our strangest hopes and fears or wander into moments of irritability and forgetfulness. Plagues of rabid bats roam the land. Well, not that last one; we can’t blame everything on Mercury retrograde, even if it is in its own nervy sign of Gemini, conjunct Mars and the Sun, and all square confusing, soggy Neptune, a pattern which can make this retrograde cycle (May 20-June 13) feel even more retrograde than usual.

What a wonderful time to write fiction, if we can tell fiction from reality, though reality itself might be plenty strange. Or we may just drift and putter. We can get lost in a bog of memories or chew on them for more understanding or just for the emotional high of intense feelings. But the theories we develop now about what actually happened can be layered with our own projection or self-doubt. Let memories surface, and let them flow away; our understanding of them will probably be distorted and our desire to hold onto them may really speak of a need for a break from the present. By the end of the week we have an opportunity to turn a corner towards the future.

This lineup (Mercury retrograde conjunct Mars and the Sun, all square Neptune) does call for some time out, time to work on project we love, time to read a book that takes us far away, or meander through the woods from the joy of our heart. Though it’s probably not a good idea to tune out and step off the grid completely. We can think erratically and speak sharply, and may need to stay involved enough to modify specious decisions being made in the body politic or at the family dinner table. Let’s be direct and honest, keep to the point, but avoid sweeping statements (we will regret them) and consider the consequences of our words.

We need this time out, but we need also to not drop the ball on important plans that are unfolding for the rest of the summer. So let’s see if we can take a few days here and there, a few hours every day to dwell in those other realms between the worlds, renew, revive, heal, and imagine. And also bring our attention every day to the details that need follow through to manifest the great plans unfolding later the summer.

Long longer trips may actually go more smoothly, especially trips back home, but local transportation can get snarled easily, keep an eye on weather and construction paths this Mercury retrograde. Electronic communication can have its quirks and force us to upgrade, but what looks like a problem at the beginning could bring a real improvement.

We may waft slowly through Friday in a hazy or confused mood as Mercury squares Neptune. The Moon then enters Scorpio for the weekend as the Sun squares Neptune and keeps us deep in our inner world. We can tap into deep pools of feeling, combine Gemini expressiveness and Scorpio’s ability to drill deep, and feel wafting existential loneliness underneath socially fluid Gemini. The combination can produce great music and empowered artwork, because we long to find soul expression.

We can have funny conversations about terribly dark and deep things, find unusual ways of helping one another, but may go back and forth between needing to be with people, and needing to be alone. Let’s make sure all of our needs are met. This energy can also be highly flirtatious and intense, with old loves and one night stands recycling; just don’t make the same mistake twice.

Next week brings a full Moon in Sagittarius rife with possibilities and nervous energy, and possible grand snafus along the way. It first sets off a grand a T-square in the morning (as it opposes the Sun, Merc, Mars combo and squares Neptune) then a grand trine the evening (when it trines Jupiter and Uranus). This full Moon in Sagittarius can restlessly dislodge us from old ruts, it asks us where we want to go and can opens up opportunities to get there. It can mark a turning point away from some sadness or failure in the past, where it may have been hard to see our options, and now offers glimpses of fresh roads opening up. We can use this full Moon to let go of an old obsession, habit, or relationship that has been draining our hearts and begin the search for more fertile fields.

Be kind to nerves and nervy people. Because of the cross-currents involved on this full Moon, we can feel scattered or pulled in many directions, feel one of every possible emotion, or feel confused as we stand at some interior crossroads. It’s a good time to support empaths and people whose psyches are frayed. On a practical level we may see crossed wires or crossed signals, arguments around education and foreign-policy, and water damage to transportation; all these bring an opportunity to take a deep breath and open our minds and hearts a little wider, and work a way around the problem.

The week ends on a more competent Capricorn Moon that might get a little cranky but can help us refocus our efforts.

Friday, May 29: Soggy conditions, overstimulated imagination, fuzzy thinking; our mind and heart can feel bogged down as Mercury squares Neptune this morning. The Moon in friendly Libra encourages us to socialize and connect, but we may just be a little irritable around the edges. Watch out for accidents and change of plans this morning, just stay aware as the Moon opposes Uranus. Kindness helps around awkwardness or relationship wobbles midafternoon as the Moon squares Venus, though our intentions will probably be good. Afternoon, if we can quit work early let’s do it’s not a focused organize time; social conversation might more productive than trying to keep our nose to the grindstone. Just watch the commentary as feelings can get hurt when we think we’re just being witty.

Mercury square Neptune 1 AM, Moon opposed Uranus 6:17 AM, Moon square Venus to 20 p.m. then Moon VOC

Saturday, May 30: Dark and light, deep and shallow, this day runs with extremes as the Moon enters focused and intense Scorpio while the Sun conjuncts Mercury in nervy Gemini. Feel the need to communicate but at the same time a deep need for privacy. Share where people are open, and respect “do not enter” signs. Come together for a cause or purpose; our short-term concentration is strong, we do well with a sense of purpose. Evening brings an opportunity to dream as the Moon trines Neptune. Notice what’s going on underneath the words.

Moon enters Scorpio 3:33 AM, Sun conjunct’s Mercury 10:55 AM-8° Gemini, Moon trine Neptune 10:30 PM,

Sunday, May 31: Lots of strong emotions but very little clarity this morning as the Sun squares Neptune. Let it be a meditation. Feel for that deep connection with spirit, the doors will be unusually open and the rest of life could be too confusing. Watch out for problems with liquids, water, things that flow. Take a flood seriously, and don’t be surprised by a flood of tears or laughter. A generous streak helps midday moves into healing opportunity tonight.

Sun square Neptune 7:07 AM, Moon square Jupiter 11:30 AM, Moon trine Chiron 8:26 PM,

Monday, June 1: Morning is a little slow and preoccupied, our thoughts still linger over personal emotional concerns of the weekend but we can find room to be compassionate with one another as the Moon trines Venus. Just watch for people’s prickly defenses, honor their personal space and rhythm. The momentum picks up this afternoon as the Moon enters more upbeat Sagittarius but circles back to serious plans, vows, and thoughtful moments as the Moon conjunct Saturn.

Moon trine Venus 5:01 AM, then Moon VOC, Moon enters Sagittarius 12:39 PM, Moon conjunct Saturn 4:20 PM.

Tuesday, June 2: It was the worst of days; it was the best of days. The Sagittarius Moon forms a confusing, nervous making, intriguing and mysterious T-square as it opposes Mercury, Sun and Mars all now in Gemini (from 8 to 12°) and all of these square Neptune (at 9° Pisces). At the best of this we can feel at one with the whole world. At the worst we can feel scattered and at odds with the whole world, or at least a little fried along the way. Unusual honesty is available and so are misunderstandings perpetuated in the name of honesty. When in doubt, it may help to be quiet, and listen with the intuitive nature instead of the very busy mind. At its peak midday we can feel pulled in many directions, but some of those pulls could be through unexpected opportunities. Choose to turn down a healthier road to more fertile territory. Tonight the energy shifts out of the uncomfortable T-square into a an easier, more exciting grand trine; the energy still buzzes but can bring a more lighthearted or optimistic direction.

Moon opposed Mercury to 20 7 AM, Moon square Neptune 6:37 AM, Moon 18° Sagittarius opposes Sun 18° Gemini at 10:18 AM, Moon opposed Mars 4:30 PM, Moon trine Jupiter 7:31 PM, Moon trine Uranus 11:58 PM

Wednesday, June 3: Conversation is scattershot, everybody can be a little ADD, but let’s honor the urge to contact or communicate and build on common ideas and interests. When we work together we become more mobile and resilient through some interesting glitches. Afternoon is more disjointed; it may take a lot of attention to follow through on our work. Expect an urge to escape the countryside and let human concerns float away until evening when the Moon enters Capricorn and sharpens our focus but can bring in a dour edge.

Moon square Chiron 3:28 AM, Moon quintile Neptune 2:56 PM then VOC, moon enters Capricorn 6:50 PM

Thursday, June 3: It’s a good day for practical meetings with the purpose. We can get people to work together for specific issues, but it may take extra work and planning. We have to balance the need to plan and track carefully, with a need to relax and accept the fact that we’re not completely in control and things just won’t flow like we hoped. What seems natural may be blocked, and we have to hack a solution or work around the obstacles. Tonight brings a layer of emotional depth, and an opportunity to invalidate or validate our relationships, with the natural outcomes ensuing. Proceed thoughtfully.

Springtime can change our landscape; restless roots push up and shift the ground and dirt, water rushes down streams and erodes the ground here, deposits there. Trees swell from winter grey through the yellows and red of bud into brave and tender green leaves. Our lives can do the same as the Sun and Mercury finish a conjunction with Uranus in activated Aries, and a square to Pluto.

We need to feel the ache of spring discontent and roll with unexpected shifts in our terrain. New life sprouts under these aspects; when our goals are clear we can find surprising resources to feed our roots. Interesting new connections can bud quickly and publicity blossoms easily when our energy gets on a roll.

We might not always like the changes in the terrain though; like the burgeoning roots of a neighboring tree, the growth of people or projects nearby can crowd us out. As trees come into bloom we see where the winter’s toll left branches dead or wounded. Do we prune now or give it more time and see if it comes back alive? Beautiful bulbs can spring up just where we’re going to put the new pathway and need to be moved. Businesses and people will be pruning apparent deadwood this week, relocating resources or paring down jobs and friendships that are inherently worthy, but not part of new plans. And this can hurt.

In a few places we must protest and support our ecosystem. But there’s no point in resisting most of the more subtle changes. We may not like pruning our closets or uprooting others, or being the ones so pruned and uprooted, but our new circumstances may actually provide more fertile ground.

The weekend begins under a determined Capricorn Moon which can encourage our excitement wherever we dig our hands into worthy work, but can also underline our frustration when circumstances get in the way of our business. People get willful, some get really pushy, but most of us will just feel a little extra torque in the soul. Emotional Venus also enters versatile and mobile Gemini this weekend and brings a lighthearted flirtatious quality that can help us adapt.

Just in time for taxes Mercury enters earthy Taurus, Venus opposes pragmatic Saturn and our responsibilities, budget, and practicalities can get in the way of our Venus activities, like our love life and creative process. But it may just be time to tend the nuts and bolts of the situation, write up resumes, finish term papers, or somehow craft our message to the world around us.

The week ends as Pluto retrogrades, and that can bring up some old power troubles struggles or begin to reveal the roots of deeper work needed. Look for pivotal stories this week about the use and abuse of power, that’s political, persona, and electrical power, and be part of the story that helps us pivot in a good direction.

Friday, April 10: This can be a willful if productive day, not particularly cuddly, but full of accomplishment if we can stay out of conflict within ourselves or with others as the industrious Capricorn Moon trines energizing Mars. We can use this extra determination to clear the decks for the weekend, Momentum can build, but we make we need to make sure it’s in a good direction. People can be a little humorless in their hurry and have trouble letting go of the workday in order to connect tonight. Encourage them to do so but don’t insist, even well-intentioned manipulation will be tempting but not appreciated.

Moon enters Capricorn 6:46 AM, Moon trine Mars 8:35 PM

Pay attention to dreams and drifting emotions, they may offer clues to what’s bothering us as the Moon conjuncts Pluto this morning. Our mood may be restless, itchy, and hard to coordinate through the bulk of the day as the Moon squares both Uranus and the Sun; every family member wants to head off in a different direction. Don’t get so caught up and miss opportunities to connect. Have patience, roll with spontaneous suggestions, and let go of attachment to any particular agenda, and more actually gets done. A few new strands enter the conversation as Venus enters Gemini this afternoon. Tonight we can be serious about our fun with the Moon in Capricorn bringing in determination and Venus in Gemini adding levity and flirtation.

Moon squares the nodes at 4:10 AM Venus enters Gemini 9:28 AM, Moon conjuncts Pluto 10:32 AM, Moon squares Uranus 12:40 PM, Moon squares the Sun at 9:44 PM

Sunday, April 12: Don’t take mild communication glitches personally this morning as the Moon squares Mercury; keep your sense of humor and wait until the coffee kicks in, and all can be well. We grow more sociable towards noon as the Moon enters Aquarius, and can be positively gregarious this afternoon as the Moon trines Venus. It may be easier to talk to strangers or keep the conversation light than hammer out a serious conversation. Poetry, prose, and funny conversations; we want to get creative with words, but may not mean everything we say if it makes a good punchline. Pay attention to words and don’t under estimate the healing power of friendliness.

Moon square Mercury 2:14 AM, then void of course, Moon enters Aquarius 11:43 AM, Moon trine Venus 2:07 PM

Monday, April 13: Cranky edges can distract us and we drop the coffee this morning as the Moon squares Mars and opposes Jupiter but the vibes level out later to a more expansive if opinionated day. Don’t ask us to introspect for this moment, we can talk about anything else besides our innards. It’s a great day to get the word out, get publicity, tell stories, and update that newsletter. Afternoon can be active in an aimless sort of way that efforts enjoy the journey and don’t worry about the goal.

Moon squares Mars, 3:43 AM, Moon opposed Jupiter 9:14 AM, Moon VOC

Tuesday, April 14: Tears, come easily, feelings hurt over little glitches as out sensitivities heighten this morning when the Moon enters Pisces. Relationships can feel tested as the Moon, Venus, and Saturn form a T-square in high-strung mutable signs this afternoon. Take turns, and honor sensitivities even when in a hurry. Taxes and tasks can cramp our style. Our common sense and emotional resilience improves as Mercury enters grounded Taurus this afternoon. When in doubt, garden or tend to earthy chores as a grounding meditation.

Moon enters Pisces at 2:11 PM, Mercury enters Taurus 4:51 PM, Moon square Venus 8:51 PM, Moon square Saturn 8:59 PM, Venus opposed Saturn 10:24 PM

Wednesday, April 15: Hopefully all the taxes are in, because the Moon conjunct Neptune in Pisces is wonderful for crying, feeling, or pulling out the art supplies, but isn’t great for logical sequence. If we have to struggle with a page of numbers before the end of the day, we may need a good cry first, and then need to take a creative approach. Our psychic boundaries are permeable; if the mood feels strange, look around at the headlines, friends or family for the source. Question sudden strange flights of fantasy or fear, work them into a short story but don’t draw conclusions about beloveds based on these. Consider divination, meditation, or creative process to feel that connection with something larger than ourselves. Let’s make that connection with the planet or all sentient beings, rather than just the nerves of the other people on the bus. Tonight, our sensitivity can stir up some old pain and we can choose to make this a healing moment.

Moon conjunct Neptune at 4:51 AM, Moon conjunct Chiron 10:07 PM

Thursday, April 16: This morning we may feel a little out of sync, raw. Let everybody bump along at their own rhythm. Work on ideas rather than details and listen to the subtle messages churning in the subconscious. It helps to be very respectful of boundaries and protocol, not for formality sake, because good relationship habits really help when we’re feeling tested and easily overwhelmed. It’s easy to get discouraged about delays in work or about some project that brought us hope, but it will further to be steadily persistent instead. If our feelings got hurt this morning, we get ticked off this afternoon as the Moon enters Aries and trine Saturn; we switch into higher gear but may disagree about priorities.

Moon the void of course until Moon enters Aries 2:59 PM, Moon trine Saturn at 9:29 PM, Pluto retrogrades 9:54 PM
