What does freedom mean to us? On this Fourth of July weekend, benevolent Venus conjuncts expansive, freedom-loving Jupiter, thoughtful Mercury sextiles it, and energizing Mars semi-squares Jupiter, and all these aspects will beg that question. We can appreciate a strong tribal quality this weekend, and need to think about where we belong. Are we thinking of the tribe of our insular family, our particular cultural and political niche? Or can we expand our tribe to include all sentient beings on earth, all our relations.

Because the planets like to work across the board, we’re asked to contemplate this question– what does freedom mean, what’s the cost, how do we guarantee others’ freedom as well as our own—every which way, on a political, economic, and spiritual level. Venus-Jupiter conjunct in expansive Leo and so suggests that whatever we do will tend to be on a grand scale. Communicative Mercury sextiles Jupiter and encourages us to discuss freedom in all its many forms. Mars challenges Jupiter and instigates us to us wrestle over opinions or play fiercely. This Mars-Jupiter aspect can also leave us prone towards accidents, so let’s be careful around flammable material, political topics, and personalities.

Right now our Sun is in an unusually active phase, it’s spitting out solar flares which energize our magnetic field and creates geomagnetic storms. When the Sun flares, the current aspects are energized and the volume turns up on history. The recent Supreme Court decisions are one example positive example, the European financial crisis less comfortable form. Statements or events may occur which can trigger a real shift in the course of fate. Everybody just gets excited, even the electrons, and will ask what they can use any help electrical others are broad and singing to us again as the northern lights shimmer near the polls.

This holiday weekend begins under a communal, picnic-oriented Aquarius Moon. We respond well to fireworks, a wonderful collective art form, parades, and all other events that promote community more than intimacy. It would be a good weekend to check in with friends who are housebound or isolated, and invite them along. We may enjoy the crowd more than usual, and even if we don’t feel like going, it’s nice to feel included. Just keep the agenda loose, because most of us will resist heavy expectations.

Freedom: watch that word bandied around by political candidates, the cost and gift of freedom. On a personal note we may see a rash of yard sales as people want to be free of excess clutter and memorabilia they no longer need to carry around. We may long to drop an old anger or clear our life of angry people, or find a way to free ourselves of the limiting self-doubt. Because the Sun and Mars are also in security-loving Cancer, we may be tempted to step away from a job or relationship that feels confining, but may not be ready to endanger our comfort. So let’s enjoy a break this weekend then work on how we can bargain and negotiate for a less encumbered, more spacious relationship or workplace.

On Sunday the energy turns paradoxically more muscular and more sensitive. Maybe it’s just a hangover from July 4 picnics, maybe we need a break, or maybe we need to chew on the deeper issues and costs of freedom. Monday is a day to sleep in and rest up, and contemplate the ephemeral quality of beauty as the Sun opposes Pluto. It brings us to the bittersweet quality of letting go. We will also feel rumbles in the background of discontented grumbling and potential saber rattling at the edges of a power-play. We can easily crossed signals and grumble at one another or at an imaginary slight. It’s an important time to hold our ground and insist on fairness for all.

Mars also trines Neptune this week and brings up questions around acts of faith, what can we do in the name of our faith, where are we using faith, philosophy, or religion to live by, and where do we use it to hide behind. Once we enter the Neptune realm, it’s not about logic. Let’s just own that.

Midweek the Moon enters feisty Aries just as Mercury enters touchy Cancer and amps up the charge on those questions we pondered over the weekend. Our histamines levels can be higher than usual so we react allergic to pollen, nasty people, and other irritants.

The aspects of this last week echoing in recent events have helped us reassess our situation and may clarify what we need to concentrate upon for the next few months. Rather than get depressed about this new awareness of the work ahead (though that may easy to do), we can use it as a strategic planning incentive and feel how much support is actually available.

Friday, July 3: A glitch or communication snafu this morning can bring up some old sore point or remind us of unfinished business. Later, the day smooths out though people start getting vacation mind early on, and it’s hard to complete or follow through. By dinnertime, when Mercury sextiles Jupiter, we want to be free of our mundane week and are ready to step out of the ordinary. We may not want to hear bad news or difficult logistics at the moment, so keep comments directed towards what’s needed for a positive outcome, and get more cooperation. It’s easy to open lines of communication as long as we honor the flow of conversation, take turns and make room in our cadence for everyone.

Moon sextile Saturn 4:37 AM, Moon enters Aquarius 6:20 AM, Mercury square Chiron 9:06 AM, Moon sets required draped Mercury 6:12 PM, Mercury sextile Jupiter 6:53 PM,

Saturday, July 4: The mood wanderers sociably, but we may not want to get too close, and we need to move in our own time. Meander the day away. Watch out for an opinionated, accident-prone or cranky phase early this evening; be careful with those fireworks and with a tendency to over-do. But we may have the capacity to enjoy a crowd more than usual, to feel the buzz of humankind, as long as we know our escape route if needed. The crowd’s fine, crowding is not. Lovely Mercury sextile Venus encourages camaraderie and more coziness late tonight.

Moon sextile Uranus 4:15 PM, Moon sesqui-quadrate Mars 7:07 PM, Moon opposed Jupiter 7:36 PM, Moon trine Mercury 10:13 PM, Moon opposed Venus 10:31 PM,

Sunday, July 5: We can get both more sensitive and edgier today as the Moon enters intimate but easily- bruised Pisces just as Mars forms a challenging semi-square to Jupiter and brings out our pugnacious streak. Difficult relatives bring up politics, but not because they want an open discussion. One good way of using this energy to engage muscular effort on something sensitive and creative: garden, paint, and beautify surroundings. Be careful to not manipulate today, even if feeling emotionally needy and wanting others to cooperate to make one feel safer, manipulation will tend to backfire. Be honest and caring instead, and notice that gets better results. We may feel we have to make difficult decisions tonight as the Sun tangles with Saturn, if so, let’s set clean clear solid boundaries now so we can back off and be more open later.

Mercury sextile Venus 2:18 AM, Moon squares Saturn 6:31 AM, Moon semi-square Pluto 7:11 AM then VOC, Moon enters Pisces 8:22 AM, Mars semi-square Jupiter 9:45 AM, Moon semi- square Uranus 5:16 PM, Moon trine Mars 9:19 PM, Sun sesqui- square Saturn 11:23 PM

Monday, July 6: Sleep in and drift away this morning as the Moon conjuncts Neptune in Pisces and trines the Sun. Later, notice a judgmental streak, towards self or others, and drop it as the Sun opposes Pluto. Be bigger than that. The holiday fog can begin to clear and we see the work, effort left that needs to be tackled in the months ahead as the Sun opposes Pluto. If we’re not judge mental to towards others, we’ll feel better about ourselves. It’s easy to feel inadequate or feel like we have too little resources to tackle the work at hand, but we can use this to focus efforts rather than just get depressed.

Tuesday, July 7: We may still be slow off the mark this morning, as if our brains are still on vacation even when our feet take us back to work as the Moon squares Mercury, let people be a bit squishy and amorphous. The mood changes around noon as the Moon enters edgy or Aries, we can feel the momentum pick back up, for better or worse. So let’s make sure we aim ourselves in a good direction, be creative rather than reactive. A hidden or delayed ambition knocks on the door and asks for some time. Tonight, were not feeling particularly cooperative, will tend to think other people are doing it all wrong, so really, we don’t need the help as Mercury quincunx Saturn.

Moon square Mercury 6:56 AM, Moon trine Saturn 8:35 AM, and then VOC, Moon enters Aries 10:37 AM

Wednesday, July 8: We can make jerky moves or slight klutzy efforts to make progress but somehow will tend to drag our feet this morning. The situation may be more complicated than we think, even if we’re raring to go, as the Aries Moon squares Pluto. Mars trines Neptune and helps us let go of an anger and find our vision again, but we may need to move into a more forgiving place to free up the energy we need. Feels good to be near water, too put effort behind our craft are our. Tonight as Mercury enters cancer our story becomes more important.

Moon square Mars 2:15 AM Saturn 9:57 AM, Moon square Pluto 10:44 AM, Mercury enters Cancer 12:51 PM, Moon square Sun to 20 3 PM, Mars trine Neptune 4:42 PM, Moon conjunct Jupiter 9:16 PM

Thursday, July 9: There’s some sweet and beautiful energy available this morning, we long for a more beautiful world and may be unusually willing to work towards that goal as the Aries Moon trines Venus and Jupiter. It could be something simple, but let’s take a step in that direction. If an opportunity cracks open, it needs to be seized now. We also want to feel an energy exchange with the people we know and love, so it’s important to greet our beloveds warmly and connect with them. However briefly, make it authentic and intense. If we feel ignored we will get ornery. The Moon enters more settled and sensual Taurus this afternoon as Mercury quintiles Uranus and leaves us a little edgy and nervous, but this energy can be turned into a special kind of genius.

This weekend we may feel deeply ambiguous about humanity in general and people in particular.  We can feel both content with our beautiful relationships and yet simultaneously cynically fed up with people’s inhumanity to people, torn between diving into life wholeheartedly and going on solitary retreat. Venus and Jupiter conjunct for many weeks in extroverted Leo call us out to the party, conference, or arts festival,  while the Moon in Scorpio and Sun and Mars in Cancer can leave us introspective, potentially suspicious, and in desperate need of some time alone.

Because of this conflict we may feel unusually tender or vulnerable and be tempted to overdo or overreact; we may want to leave town rather than take a break, or bite back rather than set a calm boundary. We may find great last-minute excuses to not join the parade. Maybe we need to fix the motor, dig in our garden, or engage in some other solitary pursuit in order to get socially acceptable privacy. Or we may need to meditate on the ephemeral beauty of the moment in light of the impermanence of existence. That Scorpio Moon encourages us to engage intensely or dive below the surface and think about the deeper aspects of life this weekend.

This lineup can help us examine something uncomfortable, if we choose to do so. It can help us look squarely at what bothers or repulses us, and then ask that creative Venus-Jupiter conjunction to help us find a clear, clean, strong loving path towards a solution, if we’re not too busy or irritated to listen.

Early next week our mood can relax but we may still find something to worry about or in engage in a troubling conversation as Mercury forms a challenging aspect Pluto. If so, we can rely on the Sagittarian Moon to help us by employing simple honesty. Just speak up, leave out the loaded terms, keep comments simple and stay in the present moment.

Our social political restlessness picks up speed and we can itch for a change of people, place or aesthetics as Venus trines Uranus. The Sagittarius moon forms a grand trine with Venus and Uranus and opens doorways to great pickup lines and handsome strangers and other serendipitous and unusual meetings, if we can get out of our house and give serendipity a chance.

Our ongoing loves can also be energized if we don’t take one another for granted but rather look at our old loves as fresh opportunity for joy. Because it’s not such a realistic time, even if we meet a beautiful stranger, let’s stay in the public eye with them until we know them better. This trine also speaks of the transformative power of love; expressions of solidarity and warmth can support a subtle transformation going on within and without.

Midweek we may need to readjust our goals in response to new information, but let’s make sure it’s neither laziness nor giving into a fear of failure. Some events may trigger our memory of a previous failure or words of doubt once whispered in our ears and can undermine our confidence. We can either get caught up in this dynamic again, or choose to heal it as Jupiter and Venus both quincunx Chiron while the Moon waxes full in industrious Capricorn.

Friday, June 26: Reach out this morning; ask for any necessary favors early in the day because we become more suspicious, internal, and persnickety as the Moon enters Scorpio midday. Afternoon encourages us to make surgical decisions, what do we need to cut out, attach, weed, reorganize as the Moon trines Mars. Tonight, our humor sharpens and the mood grows musky, we send messages through body language even though we may appear emotionally guarded. Be prepared to either share at a deep level, take time alone, or enjoy solitude in a crowd on this intense night.

Moon VOC until it enters Scorpio 11:56 AM, Moon trine Mars 3 PM, Moon trine Sun 10:12 PM.

Saturday, June 27:  Let’s immerse ourselves in something, anything: a cause, a pond, a project, a parade or shamanic journey. Use beautiful grand trine in water signs (Scorpio Moon, Sun in Cancer, Neptune in Pisces) to perceive and focus. Because our emotional antennae are highly tuned and our feelings are a little touchy, it helps to either be alone or with like souls and share a common goal close to the heart. If we feel interrupted or don’t have a place to put this focus- or feel unsafe or over-loaded, this deep vein of feeling can turn to a craving for some intense experience or will snap into a scorpion sting. Tonight we are prone to excess as the Sun semi-squares Jupiter; our attention is brought to where we feel free and unfettered, and where we still feel constrained.

Moon trine Neptune 7:09 AM, Moon quincunx Mercury 3:02 PM, Moon sextile Pluto 4:05 PM, Sun semi-square Jupiter 5:53 PM

Sunday, June 28: It’s a heavy day, no matter how delightful the sunlight, though we can use this heaviness well. Dig deep, build foundations, plant roots, or protest injustice. Do not believe the murmur of depression or inevitability. Notice the habits of loneliness, own up to the need for solitude, and take responsibility for reaching out beyond that to create connection. Don’t go looking for the pain, make no assumptions about the future but trust the potential of change as Mercury quincunx Pluto. Dinner time is thoughtful but our mood lifts later; fresh honesty and the natural world can soothe and brighten our soul as the Moon enters Sagittarius

Moon square Venus 1:43 AM, Mercury quincunx Pluto 2:20 AM, Moon quincunx Uranus 2:58 AM, Moon square Jupiter 4:41 AM, Moon conjunct Saturn 7:50 PM, Moon semi-square Pluto 8:19 PM, Moon enters Sagittarius at 9:21 PM

Monday, June 29: A lovely socially-restless Venus-Uranus trine can make us footloose and long to be fancy free. It’s a wonderful day to experiment with a new approach or walk barefoot on the sand, hard to get people to knuckle down to work. If we schedule in the wandering time, our work moments actually get more productive. It may be time to start a new chapter. Share excitement, exploration, a hope for change. Midafternoon can bring sleepiness or uncertainty as the Moon squares Neptune, clarify facts and let the mind drift in productive ways.

Venus trine Uranus 12:26 AM, Moon quincunx Mars 3:20 AM, Moon quincunx Sun 11:25 AM, Moon square Neptune 3:11 PM,

Tuesday, June 30: Morning brings opportunities that could open doors (though we have to step through) as the Moon forms a creative and freedom-loving grand trine with Uranus, Venus, and Jupiter. While the gateways are open and possibilities abound, let’s ask what our loving creativity want to bring forth. Make overtures now. Later on, the energy becomes more disconnected and can tap-dance on some old wound that affects our ability to love or create in the moment as Venus quincunx Chiron and brings an opportunity to forgive and expand beyond that old pain. We can do it.

Wednesday, July 1: It’s time to get down to it; work we avoided earlier in the week now becomes do as the Moon waxes full in industrious Capricorn. We can get easily frustrated with one another, or with our own path, if it doesn’t seem to be moving fast enough, but let’s not take this urgency out on one another– particularly midday as the Moon opposes volatile Mars. Notice and hold ground– but don’t take the bait– around arguments of authority or chain of command, or whose plans win. Find a way to shift the power dynamics to just get the work done; turn this impatience into competence, Capricorn’s gift. Tonight’s full moon full moon at 8:19 PM MDT can trigger our control issues but is a good time to make a pact to balance personal life and work life in a way that expands both.

Thursday, July 2: It helps to work off our difficult moods this morning as the waning Capricorn Moon pulls away from its conjunction to Pluto. If some people complain about odd and apparently irrelevant things to express their discomfort, look to a feeling of inadequacy or loss underneath. As the day progresses, although we may still run uncomfortable energy and feel nervous or impatient about some corner of our lives, yesterday’s conflicts can bring today’s ingenuity as Mercury sextiles inventive Uranus. If our minds obsess on a problem, it pays to drop it, tackle something completely different, and then circle back to the problem from a different direction. The mood softens around dinnertime; social graces can ease the way past earlier friction.

Like the fruit and burgeoning vegetables around us, it’s time to ripen, to grow personally, rather than run around and try to be efficient. Because we just can’t see clearly this weekend, we’re unusually permeable and processing strong ambient currents of feeling. Like the ripening fruit, we need to provide nourishing circumstances for one another and fertilize healing and growth as Mercury squares Neptune and the Sun enters Cancer on Sunday at 10:37 AM MDT.

Since late April we’ve been under a magical but confusing, sometimes crazy-making square between Mercury and Neptune. This week we’ve also dealt with an energizing Sun-Mars conjunction that has had lethal results. This aspect can make us eloquent, can promote great verbal sparring, but makes it all too easy for irritation to spike quickly into snapping anger, but an anger that doesn’t need to entrench. Together with the Neptune square, this anger can stem from delusion or misunderstanding. Both aspects taper off after this weekend and let us heal and build steadier, saner, momentum in the weeks ahead.

Over the weekend, look west just after Sunset to see a beautiful Venus, Moon, Jupiter conjunction, an aspect that can confer unusual luck and feeling. Let’s let this energy in and open our hearts bigger than our own heart’s ache. Individual relationships can flourish under this aspect or they can suffer from the overflow of our heart which can pour into a surplus of emotional expectations and imaginary projections and bring a melodramatic response. Keep opening the heart wider, with more compassion and acceptance.

Leo rules the heart; this conjunction calls us to our heart chakra. It can crank up our expressive reactions and turn any simple event into Shakespeare in the park, whether a tragedy or comedy is up to us. It can help us turn a real tragedy into an opportunity for radical love.

Venus and Jupiter run together all summer long, we’ll be talking a lot about this extra bounty of the heart– the compassion, creativity, and crimes of passion it can bring– for the next few months. This weekend it hits the spotlight as the Moon joins in. New relationships can spring up, old commitments can feel renewed. Our hearts could stretch into healing camaraderie across racial and social divides. To use this aspect wisely we have to care, to treasure the love we find. Because it turns up the volume of our emotion, this aspect could either mitigate or inflame otherwise difficult aspects of this summer, depending on how we use our emotional surplus.

Under this weekend’s conjunction, our solstice gatherings and arts festivals may be memorably creative. We might as well enjoy this magic because although we want practical changes, the nuts and bolts of them will be challenging through the weekend but get easier towards the end of the week. A bittersweet mood hits late Sunday as both the Sun and Moon leave extroverted signs and turn inwards, the Sun enters Cancer and the Moon enters Virgo a few minutes later, bringing our attention back to our family, back to our memories and our soul’s longing.

Next week brings a wake-up call for some of us. We may feel we’ve woken up from a dream or feel a cloud of uncertainty begin to lift. Whatever we’ve been avoiding or have misunderstood begins to become more transparent, whether we like it or not. If we’re lucky, will be presented with exciting new opportunity, or we may just itch for a break in our normal routine as Mercury finally clears it square to Neptune just as expansive Jupiter trines ingenious Uranus.

Summer solstice gatherings and social events will be memorably creative. Magic is in the air, prayer is strong, though we may feel an urge for more practical change we won’t be very efficient about it for a few more days, our thinking is fuzzy and our practical efforts may be temporarily blocked as Saturn semi-squares Pluto. This aspect can also bring up some interesting debate around the benefits and troubles of a limiting force, like our police force, our military or our personal disciplines. Let’s adjust our expectations to be more in line with our circumstances and make the most of this time.

A bittersweet mood hits later Sunday as summer begins as the Sun and Moon move from two extroverted signs (Gemini and Leo) to two introverted signs (Cancer an Virgo) around noon time. By Sunday night the stars ask us to bring our attention back to our family of choice or origin. Venus forms a challenging, bittersweet, Pluto that leaves our heart a little haunted and aware, longing for more scope or more healing.

Next week we may itch for a break in our normal routine or find an exciting new opportunity presents itself next as Jupiter trines Uranus. Necessity or boredom may be the mother of invention, we can dream up ingenious new ways of solving a problem. Our engineering skills or intuitive abilities can up for any lack of practical common sense. Towards the end of the week with have an opportunity deepen our relationship to ourselves and to one another or have an opportunity to open to new friendships of the soul.

Friday, June 19: Abrupt but friendly, warmhearted but fierce, it’s hard to get out of our own perspective and act with objectivity with the Sun and action-oriented Mars so close together and the Moon in expressive Leo. We may be easily but reasonably ticked off; we need to do something about what bothers us. But as the day progresses and the Moon approaches a conjunction to Venus tonight, our hearts warm up and we’re ready to engage. Creativity and attraction abound, but our swords stay close at hand. This is not a weekend to sit alone on the mountaintop but a time to engage our community wholeheartedly.

Moon enters Leo 12:22 AM, Moon sextile Mercury 1:35 PM, Moon quincunx Neptune 7:11 PM Moon semi-square Mars 11:35 PM,

Saturday, June 20: This serendipitous day may bring magical connections or miracles of compassion or solidarity as the Leo Moon conjuncts Venus, Jupiter, and trines Uranus. We’re not thinking too clearly, maybe it’s the dust of fairy dust in our eyes; the portals between the mundane and the magical thin. Our hearts may ache for something extraordinary and wonderful, something that soothes our soul longing. Given that, we still may not notice what other people need, though we can be gracious and generous when we do notice. Objective observance can be tricky. Dive into life fully tonight.

Sunday June 21: Our intention and energy will matter more than the details, but we need to pay attention to the nuts and bolts of what we do as the Moon squares Saturn this morning. Summer begins as the Sun enters self-protective, family-oriented Cancer at 10:37 AM MDT, the Moon enters thoughtful Virgo a few minutes later, and our mood shifts, grows more internal. The energy is pleasant, warm if a bit defensive; our attention comes back from the collective and returns to the personal. Follow up on any opportunity to connect with old friends, family, or with the garden.

Sun quincunx Saturn 12:51 AM, Moon sextile Mars 6:53 AM, Moon squares Saturn 10:09 AM, Sun enters Cancer 10:37 AM, Moon enters Virgo 10:58 AM, Moon sextile Sun 11:00 AM, Venus quincunx Pluto 4:48 PM

Monday, June 22: There’s a fresh, curious if nervous and unrealistic vibe, this morning, which can bring both a desire to start over and a desire to drift away in the hammock on this first full day of summer. The Moon opposes dreamy Neptune today, Mercury squares confusing if inspired Neptune tomorrow, so there’s no point in pushing the river even though the industrious Virgo Moon can ratchet up our to-do list. We may feel so permeable, so aware of the aches and pains of the world. Our crazy may be showing. An ingenious Jupiter-Uranus trine seeds our thoughts and encourages us to make good changes in the long run, so let’s bring that Neptune in imagination and put it to work; what can we heal, grow, invent, or come to know.

Moon square Mercury 4:27 AM, Moon opposed Neptune 6:39 AM, Jupiter trine Uranus 7:46 AM, Moon trine Pluto 4:23 PM.

Tuesday, June 23: We may need a minute to hold still today, to tune into the demands of our inner world, of our prayer life, our empathy, or need to deal with some confusion, lie, or water damage this morning as Mercury squares Neptune. But later the waters received and the fog (mental and physical) begins to clear, and we could see some damage that we only in now realize needs repairing, or have to face a tough reality we have been avoiding. But all this can feed our ingenuity. Midday can be very industrious, let’s just avoid blame and help one another instead.

Wednesday, June 24: Our defenses can spike in response to anything edgy or abrasive, but we may not want to admit it. Watch for a passive aggressive streak, we both want peacefulness as the Libra Moon squares the Sun and Mars, and need to know we’re safe as Mars enters Cancer. We can turn this impulse to nesting instead of defense, to domestic policy instead of military funding. Note people’s prickles and choose diplomacy; offer a blooming rose instead.

Thursday, June 25: Melancholy drifts amongst the verdant beauty this morning as the Moon challenges Saturn and Pluto, it leaves us tired in the face of some unfairness or worldly challenge. Afternoon brings more support to make creative changes as the Moon sextiles Venus and Jupiter. Gratitude of what we do have can refuel our efforts.

( all times MDT)

This week the energy still swirls oddly even as events pick up speed. Mercury, patron saint of communication and modernity, turned direct yesterday but we’re not out of the mental fog yet. Mercury forms a challenging square to confusing Neptune (which turns retrograde today) one more time before it appears to pick up speed at the end of June.

This means we can both finally get those emails sent, yet continue to enjoy this summer’s imaginative Neptunian haze of soggy weather and unusual sensitivity. But we’ve got some cleanup work to do this week to straighten out delays, kinks, or misunderstandings that recently occurred. We may not even know about some of the glitches yet, or some of the crazy thoughts, but we’ll find out as we go along and then can get them sorted.

To help us clear this lingering haze we can call on an undercurrent of impatient brave physicality that kicks in as the Sun conjuncts energizing Mars while Mercury forms an irritatingly urgent semi-square with Uranus on Sunday. We want to get on with our life, may be ready to pivot or change direction and can easily get irritable about delays, as well as about the quirks of the human psyche (including our own). But let’s just chill and deal with it; an accepting attitude with wry, humorous patience can help us release the snags and keep the momentum going.

After a softer Friday, we turn into an interestingly pivotal weekend rife with nervous energy and quirky timing. Pleasantly quick dialogue or potentially sharp-edged debate hovers over deeper questions about security, work, and life-purpose as we wait for the tide to turn and ready our ships to sail out.

Saturn retrogrades back into Scorpio for the summer and asks us to get to some older unfinished business that affects our security, our work, our bones and teeth and the structure of our lives. It can help us put building blocks in the right place so we can really begin to build, whether we’re building our work or a shed in the back yard.

Early next week we can get started on a new chapter, and then may get distracted by personal issues or need more time for introspection or healing time than we’d like, but we can pick up momentum by the end of the week.

We may still feel Mercury is retrograde until it clears the last of three confusing squares to Neptune (May 9, May 29, and June 23) right around the summer solstice. The energy still swirls and will occasionally bring up our uncertainties, our confusion, self-doubts, drifting dreams, unusual sensitivity to beauty, and whiffs of depression. Our imagination needs time to explore and express, or it can interfere with our life. But this aspect, combined with a strong ongoing trine between bountiful Jupiter and electrical Uranus can bring some truly innovative, out-of-the box solutions. Major decisions or technological innovations made now (but maybe not announced for months) could open portals for a long time to come.

Friday, June 12: Morning is slow and sensual as the Moon enters Taurus and Neptune turns retrograde. Midday is perfect for sitting in a hammock, but can be frustrating to follow through on new projects; we are still spinning our wheels and working through the fog. In the afternoon, persistence can help us return phone calls and tie up loose ends. Tonight we may feel ambiguous about being sociable, but can appreciate getting out of the house and being somewhere new, as long as we’re not too far out of our comfort zone. Though we may feel a little argumentative mid-evening, we can drift more contentedly late tonight.

Saturday, June 13: It’s a sweet day for a graduation or other rituals of completion; we can feel the road behind this and the road ahead and may need to stand exactly where we are. Keep a steady pace through the day, don’t rush anyone. Evening is brings out our sybaritic quality, and evening to eat pesto and melon and other delights under the stars to flirt and debate under the stars as Venus semi-squares Mars and the Moon squares Jupiter. Like a rubber band that snaps back after being stretched thin, we may be resonating emotionally and say strange things. Note the release, and let go of the story.

Moon sextile Neptune 1:03 AM, Moon trine Pluto 9:37 AM, Moon square Jupiter 4:06 PM then VOC, Venus semi-square Mars 9:29 PM,

Sunday, June 14: This could be a pivotal day as the Sun conjuncts Mars. Our road may turn because either we are complete and ready to strike out on a new road, or circumstances are shifting around us and the road curves anyway. The energy is nervy, edgy; talk it out, but sort anxiety from reality and invoke a good sense of humor. Long-term questions about work and purpose are raised. The mood changes after dinner and becomes more erratic, irreverent, and excitable as the Moon conjunct’s Mercury.

Mercury semi-square Uranus 5:19 AM, Sun conjunct Mars 9:56 AM, Moon enters Gemini 11:50 AM, Moon oppose Saturn 11:52 AM, Saturn retrogrades into Scorpio 6:35 PM, Moon conjunct Mercury 8:26 PM

Monday, June 15: And now what: that is the question of the day. Use this softer, funny, short attention span day to do some interpersonal soothing and healing. Our taste may be enthusiastic but questionable so avoid long-term aesthetic decisions. Repair, reconnect, and catch up. Tend to relationships and let people coast. The conversation is important, the decision isn’t ready.

Moon sextile Venus 3:38 AM, Moon square Neptune 4:58 AM, Moon sextile Jupiter 9:04 PM, Moon sextile Uranus 11:42 PM, Sun semi-square Venus at 11:31 PM.

Tuesday, June 16: The new Moon at 8:05 AM starts a new cycle in outreach, communiqués, and public relations. What do we need to announce? Launch ideas this afternoon though don’t be surprised if they don’t coalesce until after the Moon enters Cancer around dinner time, a good time to check our gut intuition. Help people feel safe and comfortable tonight, and watch the spirit open.

Venus in conjunct Neptune 12:20 AM, Moon conjunct Mars 7:05 AM, Moon square Venus 8:02 AM, Moon conjunct the Sun 8:05 AM then VOC, Moon enters Cancer 4:50 PM

Wednesday, June 17: Let’s not let a passing cloud of self-consciousness convince us that we need to throw up our defenses. Be introspective, not touchy: look for the empowering answers within. Use imagination; envision a difference and share the dream as the Moon trines Neptune- or live the dream, and coast. Slow down and honor a wave of empathic emotion tonight as the Moon opposes Pluto.

Moon trine Neptune 10:40 AM, Moon opposed Pluto 7:42 PM

Thursday, June 18: Morning may be cranky or unsettled as the Moon squares Uranus. We can just feel edgy or out of sorts, or need to fix little things that nibble away at our contentment. Digestion can be touchy today and people may not be able to digest what we want to tell them. So speak with kindness rather than reaction. People may be a bit serious, but in a more proactive solution-oriented mood tonight.

On these lovely late spring evening we can look up at the evening sky and see the ark of our solar system. Notice Venus glowing close to the Western horizon, Jupiter a little farther north the waxing Moon with Saturn nearby glowing brightly towards the east directly opposite the Sun. Let’s take the moment to commune with our little corner of the galaxy.

For these last few weeks, all can be lovely when we hold still and have time to share our thoughts, to putter, or further our craft. Float on a hammock or by a beach. Find something to celebrate with close family. Take the time to explore an idea and chew on it, poke at it, think about the variables, run it by others and let it take shape.

But anything else might not have been so easy. Communication glitches, mood swings that can take us way inside one minute and then restlessly social the next, as both emotions and weather conditions had soggy moments. Serious concerns needed attending just as one felt least efficient as Mars, the Sun, and Mercury all opposed muscle- building Saturn and squared diffusing, confusing Neptune. Which produced the spiritual or soul longing that can itch at the soul and take the savor out of practical chores.

But this pattern begins to change. The human story picks up speed this weekend. Friendly, creative Venus enters Leo this morning, trines Saturn over the weekend (moves towards a conjunction with Jupiter and a trine with Uranus in the weeks ahead) and brings a new urge to leave our cave and socialize. It can spark romance and give us an urgent desire to be to be seen and appreciated. Our creative process and artistic expression wakes up.

Though we still need to be patient for the moment, we may think we’ve let our beloveds know what we need and either may have not got the message across clearly, or clash with their own emotional needs, and no one feels heard. So clarify the message, be patient, listen, and take turns. Ignore people (both beloveds and clients) at peril.

We get more energy and a restless urge to be proactive and get on with our work even with Mercury retrograde as active Mars sextiles Jupiter on Friday and sextiles Uranus on Monday. Watch the news for tangentially difficult military action, or cheerfully hostile statements. A sextile brings a gentle nudge, can give us a little bit more competitive edge little bit more interest in getting off out of the hammock and into the garden. These aspects can help us coordinate our efforts to rebuild after floods the natural disasters or take romance from theoretical to manifest. But we can try to push the river ahead of schedule, before they’re really ripe. So let’s get started, but go slow enough to listen and respect the needs of the project. Timing and pacing will make a world of difference.

This is this will be especially important towards the end of the week as impatience meets obstacles. The Moon enters proactive, jump-the-gun Aries, just as Mercury stations or appears to hold still, semi-square erratic Uranus, just before it turns direct late on Thursday. He we can rush and barrel straight into a wall. Feel the revving engines and watch the road. Rein in arguments, rein in anger. Next week we get a green light, though some cleanup work to do. Get ready to run with the ball in late June; Mercury has one more square to Neptune, then comes out of its shadow and helps us build momentum as the month ends.

Friday, June 5: Overnight our minds can churn over our conundrums or review worst-case scenarios which can leave us feeling restive or ticked off this morning. We may be aware how our personal needs have upstaged our professional needs, or uncover another layer of the work we have to do as the Sun quincunx Pluto. The mood lightens as Venus enters Leo midday and brings a certain excitement and emotional urgency. Which can turn into competence and good preparations as Mars sextiles Jupiter afternoon and the Moon enters social connected Aquarius this evening. It’s a great evening for community gatherings; we may want more or want to hog our moment in the spotlight, but the evening is about group dynamics.

Moon square Uranus 4:53 AM, Venus enters Leo 9:32 AM, Moon set me square Neptune 2:05 PM then VOC, Sun quincunx Pluto 5:31 PM, Mars sextiles Jupiter 5:38 PM, Moon enters Aquarius 11:01 PM,

Saturday, June 6: Look for beauty from the past: antiques, reclaimed vegetation, or a dear old friend circling back from the mists of memory as Venus trines Saturn. Otherwise, it’s all about the community and the joy and responsibilities that we’ve us into community. If we’re feeling lonely, let’s find a group to help out, mix politics, art, and sociability as Venus trines Saturn and the Moon trines Mercury. Afternoon can bring unusual quirks of conversation, apparently random meanings that may have profound effect as Mercury quintiles Jupiter. Early evening the conversation wanders, but grows more serious later on.

Moon opposed Venus 12:01 AM, Venus trine Saturn 12:23 AM, Moon trine Mercury 8:34 AM, Mercury quintile Jupiter 2:27 PM, Moon quintile Saturn tonight,

Sunday, June 7: If we can rest up and free flow today, let’s do so. The energy meanders and doesn’t coalesce easily. It’s a good day to have iced tea in the shade and ponder how to fix the world. Watch the extra advice; we can pontificate easily and insensitively. Keep expectations low and let the wells refill.

Moon trine Sun 2:57 AM, Moon opposed Jupiter 5:05 AM, Moon trine Mars 6:31 AM, Moon sex tiles Uranus 8:30 AM then VOC.

Monday, June 8: The mood is sensitive, dreamy, but not particularly focused for a Monday morning as the Pisces Moon squares Saturn, and even more fuzzy as it conjuncts Neptune tonight. Divination, gardening, design, therapy, anything where we can tune into our sensitive perceptions, sort them from our imagination and use them consciously, will further. If feelings are hurt, check for misunderstandings first.

Moon enters Pisces at 2:16 AM, Moon squares Saturn 3:01 AM, Moon square Mercury at 10:40 AM, Sun sextiles Jupiter 3:55 PM, Moon conjunct Neptune 6:56 PM

Tuesday, June 9: We get the gas in the breaks the same time while Mars sextiles Uranus and revs us up, gives us the desire to make things happen or force changes, just as frustratingly slow Mercury blends with a tender VOC Pisces Moon and leaves us drifting. Work around obstacles rather than try to work through them. Do not fault people (or self) for their temporary lack of ambition. Use ingenuity to solve problems already present rather than go looking for new ones.

Mars sextiles Uranus at 1:29 AM, Moon sextiles Pluto 3:36 AM, Moon square Sun 9:41 AM, Moon square Mars 12:08 PM, then VOC

Wednesday, June 10: We may feel an urgent need to do something, anything (or a boss may feel that for us) as the Moon enters Aries and trines Venus and Saturn while the Sun approaches Mars, all while Mercury appears to hold still. We have to make it a dance; with patience and attention we can harness this restlessness and do preliminary work. We can tackle a pile that’s been staring us in the face and finally deal with it. We just have to be careful not to tackle one another, as it may be tempting. This morning, breathe through interrupted communication and an urgency to say something we may regret. Our tact improves midday as Mercury sextiles Venus. We are encouraged to look for a change of scene this afternoon as the Sun sextiles Uranus.

Mercury square Uranus 12:51 AM, Moon enters Aries 5:13 AM, Moon trine Saturn 5:44 AM, Mercury sex tiles Venus 6:51 AM, Moon sex tiles Mercury 1:03 PM, Moon trine Venus 1:32 PM, Sun sextile Uranus 3:30 PM,

Thursday, June 11: Morning is twitchy; others just don’t do what we want. Generous intent returns midday, but the blustery winds of the soul race and swirl in place rather than gather momentum until Mercury turns direct late this afternoon. Drive carefully and keep a weather eye out for storms or stormy people. Straighten out problems and misunderstandings on the spot, and reach out to reconnect tonight.

Moon trine Jupiter 12:13 PM, Moon set me square Mercury 2:28 PM, Moon conjunct Uranus 2:44 PM, Moon sextile Sun 4:22 PM, Mercury turns direct 4:32 PM, Moon sextiles Mars 5:42 PM

Strange feeling swirl. Our efforts at communication can be both magical and way off base. Wild weather challenges transportation in many parts of the country. Our minds drift to our strangest hopes and fears or wander into moments of irritability and forgetfulness. Plagues of rabid bats roam the land. Well, not that last one; we can’t blame everything on Mercury retrograde, even if it is in its own nervy sign of Gemini, conjunct Mars and the Sun, and all square confusing, soggy Neptune, a pattern which can make this retrograde cycle (May 20-June 13) feel even more retrograde than usual.

What a wonderful time to write fiction, if we can tell fiction from reality, though reality itself might be plenty strange. Or we may just drift and putter. We can get lost in a bog of memories or chew on them for more understanding or just for the emotional high of intense feelings. But the theories we develop now about what actually happened can be layered with our own projection or self-doubt. Let memories surface, and let them flow away; our understanding of them will probably be distorted and our desire to hold onto them may really speak of a need for a break from the present. By the end of the week we have an opportunity to turn a corner towards the future.

This lineup (Mercury retrograde conjunct Mars and the Sun, all square Neptune) does call for some time out, time to work on project we love, time to read a book that takes us far away, or meander through the woods from the joy of our heart. Though it’s probably not a good idea to tune out and step off the grid completely. We can think erratically and speak sharply, and may need to stay involved enough to modify specious decisions being made in the body politic or at the family dinner table. Let’s be direct and honest, keep to the point, but avoid sweeping statements (we will regret them) and consider the consequences of our words.

We need this time out, but we need also to not drop the ball on important plans that are unfolding for the rest of the summer. So let’s see if we can take a few days here and there, a few hours every day to dwell in those other realms between the worlds, renew, revive, heal, and imagine. And also bring our attention every day to the details that need follow through to manifest the great plans unfolding later the summer.

Long longer trips may actually go more smoothly, especially trips back home, but local transportation can get snarled easily, keep an eye on weather and construction paths this Mercury retrograde. Electronic communication can have its quirks and force us to upgrade, but what looks like a problem at the beginning could bring a real improvement.

We may waft slowly through Friday in a hazy or confused mood as Mercury squares Neptune. The Moon then enters Scorpio for the weekend as the Sun squares Neptune and keeps us deep in our inner world. We can tap into deep pools of feeling, combine Gemini expressiveness and Scorpio’s ability to drill deep, and feel wafting existential loneliness underneath socially fluid Gemini. The combination can produce great music and empowered artwork, because we long to find soul expression.

We can have funny conversations about terribly dark and deep things, find unusual ways of helping one another, but may go back and forth between needing to be with people, and needing to be alone. Let’s make sure all of our needs are met. This energy can also be highly flirtatious and intense, with old loves and one night stands recycling; just don’t make the same mistake twice.

Next week brings a full Moon in Sagittarius rife with possibilities and nervous energy, and possible grand snafus along the way. It first sets off a grand a T-square in the morning (as it opposes the Sun, Merc, Mars combo and squares Neptune) then a grand trine the evening (when it trines Jupiter and Uranus). This full Moon in Sagittarius can restlessly dislodge us from old ruts, it asks us where we want to go and can opens up opportunities to get there. It can mark a turning point away from some sadness or failure in the past, where it may have been hard to see our options, and now offers glimpses of fresh roads opening up. We can use this full Moon to let go of an old obsession, habit, or relationship that has been draining our hearts and begin the search for more fertile fields.

Be kind to nerves and nervy people. Because of the cross-currents involved on this full Moon, we can feel scattered or pulled in many directions, feel one of every possible emotion, or feel confused as we stand at some interior crossroads. It’s a good time to support empaths and people whose psyches are frayed. On a practical level we may see crossed wires or crossed signals, arguments around education and foreign-policy, and water damage to transportation; all these bring an opportunity to take a deep breath and open our minds and hearts a little wider, and work a way around the problem.

The week ends on a more competent Capricorn Moon that might get a little cranky but can help us refocus our efforts.

Friday, May 29: Soggy conditions, overstimulated imagination, fuzzy thinking; our mind and heart can feel bogged down as Mercury squares Neptune this morning. The Moon in friendly Libra encourages us to socialize and connect, but we may just be a little irritable around the edges. Watch out for accidents and change of plans this morning, just stay aware as the Moon opposes Uranus. Kindness helps around awkwardness or relationship wobbles midafternoon as the Moon squares Venus, though our intentions will probably be good. Afternoon, if we can quit work early let’s do it’s not a focused organize time; social conversation might more productive than trying to keep our nose to the grindstone. Just watch the commentary as feelings can get hurt when we think we’re just being witty.

Mercury square Neptune 1 AM, Moon opposed Uranus 6:17 AM, Moon square Venus to 20 p.m. then Moon VOC

Saturday, May 30: Dark and light, deep and shallow, this day runs with extremes as the Moon enters focused and intense Scorpio while the Sun conjuncts Mercury in nervy Gemini. Feel the need to communicate but at the same time a deep need for privacy. Share where people are open, and respect “do not enter” signs. Come together for a cause or purpose; our short-term concentration is strong, we do well with a sense of purpose. Evening brings an opportunity to dream as the Moon trines Neptune. Notice what’s going on underneath the words.

Moon enters Scorpio 3:33 AM, Sun conjunct’s Mercury 10:55 AM-8° Gemini, Moon trine Neptune 10:30 PM,

Sunday, May 31: Lots of strong emotions but very little clarity this morning as the Sun squares Neptune. Let it be a meditation. Feel for that deep connection with spirit, the doors will be unusually open and the rest of life could be too confusing. Watch out for problems with liquids, water, things that flow. Take a flood seriously, and don’t be surprised by a flood of tears or laughter. A generous streak helps midday moves into healing opportunity tonight.

Sun square Neptune 7:07 AM, Moon square Jupiter 11:30 AM, Moon trine Chiron 8:26 PM,

Monday, June 1: Morning is a little slow and preoccupied, our thoughts still linger over personal emotional concerns of the weekend but we can find room to be compassionate with one another as the Moon trines Venus. Just watch for people’s prickly defenses, honor their personal space and rhythm. The momentum picks up this afternoon as the Moon enters more upbeat Sagittarius but circles back to serious plans, vows, and thoughtful moments as the Moon conjunct Saturn.

Moon trine Venus 5:01 AM, then Moon VOC, Moon enters Sagittarius 12:39 PM, Moon conjunct Saturn 4:20 PM.

Tuesday, June 2: It was the worst of days; it was the best of days. The Sagittarius Moon forms a confusing, nervous making, intriguing and mysterious T-square as it opposes Mercury, Sun and Mars all now in Gemini (from 8 to 12°) and all of these square Neptune (at 9° Pisces). At the best of this we can feel at one with the whole world. At the worst we can feel scattered and at odds with the whole world, or at least a little fried along the way. Unusual honesty is available and so are misunderstandings perpetuated in the name of honesty. When in doubt, it may help to be quiet, and listen with the intuitive nature instead of the very busy mind. At its peak midday we can feel pulled in many directions, but some of those pulls could be through unexpected opportunities. Choose to turn down a healthier road to more fertile territory. Tonight the energy shifts out of the uncomfortable T-square into a an easier, more exciting grand trine; the energy still buzzes but can bring a more lighthearted or optimistic direction.

Moon opposed Mercury to 20 7 AM, Moon square Neptune 6:37 AM, Moon 18° Sagittarius opposes Sun 18° Gemini at 10:18 AM, Moon opposed Mars 4:30 PM, Moon trine Jupiter 7:31 PM, Moon trine Uranus 11:58 PM

Wednesday, June 3: Conversation is scattershot, everybody can be a little ADD, but let’s honor the urge to contact or communicate and build on common ideas and interests. When we work together we become more mobile and resilient through some interesting glitches. Afternoon is more disjointed; it may take a lot of attention to follow through on our work. Expect an urge to escape the countryside and let human concerns float away until evening when the Moon enters Capricorn and sharpens our focus but can bring in a dour edge.

Moon square Chiron 3:28 AM, Moon quintile Neptune 2:56 PM then VOC, moon enters Capricorn 6:50 PM

Thursday, June 3: It’s a good day for practical meetings with the purpose. We can get people to work together for specific issues, but it may take extra work and planning. We have to balance the need to plan and track carefully, with a need to relax and accept the fact that we’re not completely in control and things just won’t flow like we hoped. What seems natural may be blocked, and we have to hack a solution or work around the obstacles. Tonight brings a layer of emotional depth, and an opportunity to invalidate or validate our relationships, with the natural outcomes ensuing. Proceed thoughtfully.

We may all have our own personal version of Memorial Day this weekend as tender Venus in emotional Cancer opposed Pluto last night to stir our heart and retrograde Mercury brings our minds back to stories from the past. We may be painfully aware of the water that has flowed under our bridge and flowed away and need to honor an end of an era, a loss, a tough change, or loneliness– before we can shift gears as Venus squares Uranus later in the week, and celebrate summer’s life.

Not all is gloomy though, the surface energy can be light, witty and chattering, if a bit pointed, the Sun, Mars, and retrograde Mercury run together in verbal Gemini, a sign that encourages us to mind-map instead of outline, to synthesize rather than think sequentially.

This chatting may skim across the surface and give us a little privacy, or it can act as social lubrication and allow us to process stuff that is working on us at a far deeper level. Which we may need, because this weekend’s Venus-Pluto opposition can leave our hearts aching and wondering with emotional self-doubts or longing for missing places and people that once fed us.  Or it can just leave us a little moody and depressed, able to empathize with those who are going through so much. Wild weather, earth changes, and end of term have shifted the world around some of us, and Mercury retrograde may have put on hold plans or complicated our life with logistical tangles.

Friday asks us to be serious and catch up with unfinished work, check in with people who have authority over us, and prepare as the Sun opposes Saturn.  But the Moon enters Leo in the afternoon and starts that holiday feeling competing with these darker and deeper memories. Sunday the Leo Moon conjunct Jupiter beautifully in the night sky and encourages bounty, generosity, and a full picnic basket. It’s a good weekend to let community refill our wells.

Monday we may feel crosscurrents or be pulled in several directions as the Moon enters Virgo while Venus squares Uranus and Mars squares Neptune. Keep an eye on difficult people or military action in the news, and don’t echo that across the dinner table. There may be an unsettled, nervy quality about the day but most of us can channel this into home improvement projects

Legal matters further this week, it’s a good time to investigate an old crime or mistake and repair old wrongs or uncover a truth that was hidden. But we don’t need to do this at home; avoid the tendency to unproductively excavate the past in relationships or dredge up every time they ever committed the petty crime that’s now driving one nut. Speak up, but stay in the present, and stay very open to the idea that there is two-sided to this story.

Midweek we can feel rather critical as Mercury conjuncts Mars, but may not have the whole picture. So let’s not be too hard on others and ourselves but use this sharp-edged mind to get work done, refine the work already in progress and problem solve. Just keep checking and don’t go off half-cocked based on a misunderstanding. It won’t be pretty, and misunderstandings are way too common under Mercury retrograde. Be extra careful driving as impatience, misinformation, and lack of judgement can cause a pile-up. The week ends on a more emotionally connected, upbeat mood as the sociable Libra Moon trine the Sun.

Friday, May 22: Lingering moods from recent events or last night’s dreams can leave us tender and deep within this morning. Life may seem full of tough choices and strange twists of fate. Midday our efficiency wanders; it takes will power to finish up unfinished business and prepare for a holiday weekend. But that festive Moon picks up towards the end of the workday as the Moon enters extroverted Leo.  The need to de-stress and relax can make us all a bit loud and self-centered this evening- friendly and warm, but easily ticked off with anything in our way. And maybe feeling our age. Support one another helpfully, and we all get where we need to go faster.

Moon Vic, Moon enters Leo at 3:42 PM, Moon trine Saturn 6:51 PM, Sun opposed Saturn 7:34 PM

Saturday, May 23: The harder life has been lately, the more we need a moment to renew. Today is perfect day off, meander, renew by listening to a soul’s wants, and indulge. If work needs to be done, get creative as the Moon conjuncts Jupiter.  It’s a tough day to try and stay efficient or travel quickly; keep the schedule loose, expansive, and with room for serendipity. Let that beautiful Moon– Jupiter conjunction pour into the heart tonight.

Moon conjunct Jupiter 10:05 PM

Sunday, May 24: It’s another low-efficiency, high sociability day, though a bit more ready to shift, experiment, explore.  We continue to be generally friendly, generous, but self-absorbed, as it’s time to return to self and fill the wells. Don’t expect others to guess what we need or leave their patterns for ours, and do try to honor the needs of others and take turns with needs met. Or the stubborn streak can cause a problem.

Moon trine Uranus at 4:49 AM, then VOC

Monday, May 25: Make a difference as the Moon enters industrious and nervy Virgo and lengthens our to-do list. Venus squares Uranus makes us itch for change, just do not try to change one another. If our situation has been either unusually uncomfortable or especially lovely lately, it may be tempting to make sudden leap sideways or to rail against one another and list everything others have done wrong. But it will be a lot more productive to deal with the issue directly in front of us and wait a few weeks, until Mercury is direct to make long term decisions. Better to put our existential discontent to good use. Move furniture and flowerbeds, talk about healthy changes in relationship, work on desired cultural changes.  Declare a self-improvement program. Sketch the tattoo, but wait to make it happen.

Moon enters Venus to 50 1 AM, Moon squares Saturn 5:47 AM, Venus square Uranus at 11:09 AM, Moon squares Sun 11:18 AM, Mars square Neptune 5:38 PM, Moon opposed Neptune 10:32 PM, Moon square Mars 10:51 PM

Tuesday, May 26: Stay calm through some early morning scrambling as the Moon squares Mercury and Pluto. Follow the details today; this is not a big-picture day, but one built on one small change after another. If we think too far ahead, our details fall through the cracks and we get overwhelmed. People may be cranky as they try to catch up, but the work landscape is shifting sands, always changing, and so a sense of accomplishment may be hard to find. That does not mean we are not getting anywhere- all these details are necessary.  Fix, repair, confirm. Reorganize.

Moon square Mercury 1:42 AM, Moon square Pluto 9:36 AM, Moon opposed Chiron 9:49 PM, then Moon VOC

Wednesday, May 27: We may be pressed for decisions today, but let’s not be pushed into an unripe or unnecessary one.  Watch for a sudden, irrational act. Bravely explore possibilities as Mercury conjuncts Mars, but keep the decisions short term, what we’ll do this week, not this year. We may need to do surgery, to cut out something unnecessary, or to bark, to firmly set a limit- but don’t need to bite or get mean.  Say no more than necessary, we think we’re saying it like it is—but with Mercury retrograde there is a good chance we only have part of the picture and will have to eat our words later.   Judicious honesty in the morning can lead to a healing, understanding, and righting of an old wrong or imbalance later as Venus trines Chiron and the Moon enters egalitarian Libra.

Mercury conjunct Mars at 4:36 AM, Venus trine Chiron 1:45 PM, Moon enters Libra 3:42 PM

Thursday, May 28: We can find our equilibrium again today, though may have to send out a search party. Make peace. Balance the composition, as the Libra Moon trines the Sun, Mercury and Mars. This helps us balance opposing needs and find healthy compromise, and maybe admit we might really love one another.

It’s a good time to return, return to ones we have loved before, return to a place that holds our heart, or return to a project we once put on hold as Mercury retrogrades for the next three weeks.

The past whispers to us and it’s time to take a break. Whatever we’re in the midst of doing may either be put on hold while we deal with a sidebar, another agenda other than our usual, this week while Mercury retrogrades, Venus opposes Pluto, and Mars opposes Saturn.

Mercury retrogrades (May 18-June 11) in its own nervy sign of Gemini, which both makes this Mercury retrograde cycle easier, because we can stay more articulate and verbal, and more difficult because all things mercurial may be unusually challenging. Mercury is further energized and scrambled by a square with confusing if inspired Neptune- which perfected last week, retrogrades back to perfect again May 29th, and hits again going forward on June 23.  Our memory, practical logistics, understanding what another person really meant underneath the words, planning, methods of communication and transportation, all may take extra ingenuity and attention for the next three weeks.

But at least will be able to talk about it. We can get lost in our imaginary world, though our spiritual life and creative process can blossom as long as we take care of our practicalities safely.  Conversation can be light and easy, though our thoughts may be troubled with memories and we may have trouble speaking in order and can forget the punchline of our jokes. Transportation could get confusing but can be an interesting adventure.

Mercury retrograde is most difficult at the turning points because Mercury is the planet of movement, and seems to resist even appearing to hold still. So really watch your p’s and q’s, your emails and your keys right around May 18 and June 11 and a few days on either side. After Mercury turns direct we begin to untangle our problems and beaten build momentum for the future, but we won’t be up to full speed and tell June 27, when we leave the shadow on the others. (See starcodes.wordpress.com/mercury-retrograde for more info)

As the weekend begins, handle life one minute at a time. Mars opposes serious Saturn, so this won’t be a frivolous time; we’ve got serious concerns or memories that need work, from our own recent past or from the depths of history.

The weekend centers around an earthy, warm, steady, if territorial Taurus new Moon. Things start to get screwy on Monday as Mercury retrogrades in Gemini under a Gemini Moon and energy begins to swirl in place. It is helpful to go back and finish unfinished conversations or pursue lines of inquiry we started earlier throughout the rest of the week. Venus, now in introspective and sensitive Cancer, can leave us more self- protective and introverted than usual, even on a bright Sunny spring day.

The mood grows bittersweet as creative Venus approaches an opposition to Pluto at the end of the week. We may be tempted to wallow with our ghosts; we’re reminded that to love risks losing, we may remember a disaster or note a concern for the future. This aspect reminds us to treasure what we do have, who we do love. Much that was lost can be found, but let’s not obsess about the past; instead, honestly process, compost, and prepare to rebuild.

Friday, May 15: Just a touch of attitude; Independence, bravery, enthusiasm, rebellion, and pugnaciousness are instigated by the Aries Moon as it trines Jupiter and conjuncts Uranus, just as Mars opposes Saturn and makes us even more resistant to systems. But our willful nature may be curtailed by our responsibilities, well-earned discipline, or a need to develop relationships with people whose authority we respect. So find a balance between independence and mutual responsibility. Don’t feel like it’s such an either- or opportunity. Give an earthy wildness some room to roam tonight, magic is afoot.

Saturday, May 16: The waning Taurus Moon and Venus trine Neptune pluck our heartstrings and encourage us to appreciate our surroundings and take gentle pragmatic action towards making our world feel more beautiful and peaceful. Whether we are gardening, creating, tiptoeing through the tulips or working in compassionate action, it is time to carry through an idea and gentle our world. Evening is cuddly and sensual, though we may be feeling a little bit more emotionally vulnerable than we admit.

Moon enters Taurus at 1:02 AM, Venus trine Neptune 12:48 PM,

Sunday, May 17: What appears lazy may instead be slow and steady in the body, and nervously quick in the mind. A day to either lazily putter in the garden or in other ways connect with the earth. Memories of old incidents which brought out our Taurus– our fondness, our possessiveness,  territoriality, our acquisitiveness, our ability to nurture– may come up for review; are these seeds we want to nurture or experiences from the past we need to plow under an release. History sits close with us before the Taurus new Moon at tonight. So do our hungry senses.

Monday, May 18: It’s a day of paradoxes; the new Moon begins new cycles but Mercury stationary in Gemini asks us to pause, hold still, think again and look for what we are missing. We’ll need some structure to our day, but frustrations pile up if we stick to a tight schedule.  So co-create the day with fate. If communication gets really haywire, plans misdirect, or we feel like we’re running around in circles, let’s hold still a minute, and move out of frantic Gemini mind to center down in the heart to proceed. Odd wisdom is found underneath.

Tuesday, May 19: The slower we go, the more likely we are to succeed. Watch a tendency to rev up and then end up running late from missed signals and other snafus. Stay closely in touch with one another and if unexpected delays occur, look around for the silver lining; talk to strangers and look for a surprise opportunity. Return to the scene if in mind only) of early joy, and reconnect with what worked. Catch up with one another in ourselves, and engage the unexpected twists of fortune.

Wednesday, May 20: We may be a little self-protective shy or risk-averse, though that may come off as prickly or diffident as the Moon enters more tenderhearted Cancer.  It would feel good to be home and safe and out of the fray. For those of us that need to engage the world, let’s stay centered and keep our heart open but not lean into or invade other people’s space. Invite them to connection, but hold our own heart. Where we connect, we can find unusual imagination tenderness as the Moon approaches are trying to Neptune. The artistic muse can speak clearly if we give her time and supplies; help other people see the vision. Tonight we may need to mull over questions of purpose and relevance.

Moon enters Cancer 7:55 AM, Moon square the nodes at 9:33 PM

Thursday, May 21: Our feelings could be all over the place. So may be the flotsam of our life; it’s so easy to drop stuff and scatter all over the floor. The mood is funny (in the morning) jumpy, disconnected, retrospective and anxious, and a bit of an emotional puddle as the Sun enters restless Gemini and the Moon conjunct Venus in emotional Cancer as both opposed Pluto. We may feel like were standing at a crossroads and need to let go of a layer of the past in order to embrace future possibilities. After deep moods midday as the Moon opposes Pluto we could feel at loose ends and be tempted to change things too fast to be productive as the Moon squares Uranus.  Stay connected to the heart to make evening a healing time as the Moon trines Chiron.

Make hay while the Sun shines. Get done what needs to get done now while the stars support a relatively competent and functional week. With the Sun, Moon, Mars, and Pluto in earth signs as the weekend begins, let’s get sketch out plans for the next couple of months.

Because we can already feel our world slowing down, communications glitch, and an interest in the past swell up. Water problems and weather cause problems. Mercury, symbolic ruler of communication and transportation, squares confusing Neptune this weekend then turns retrograde May 18 – June 11 (and squares Neptune again twice as it does so, coming and going). But we can make the most of the introspective and reparative time ahead if we get organized now.

Friday brings a hard-working Capricorn Moon, with tough challenges and strong competence. This Capricorn Moon asks us to deal with logistics and get organized, but it also asks us to engage the conversation about the right and wrong use of personal, political, meteorological, and electrical power, the question of our time raised by the ongoing Pluto – Uranus square, which are stimulated right now as the Moon conjuncts Pluto.  We may also feel sadness drift through, a mourning for something we have recently let go or lost.

A sociable Aquarius Moon over the weekend helps us get us out and about and encourages us to work together common causes, whether we’re gardening the family yard or rescuing a town from a tornado or earthquake. But this weekend also brings a taste of this coming mercurial confusion as mental Mercury squares intuitive, imaginative Neptune. Mother Nature calls to us to frolic, but may also flex her muscles and humble us with both her beauty and power.  Be weather wise. Also be patient around confusing messages, notice how easy it is to misunderstand each other even when we are enthusiastically trying to connect. It will be so easy to get distracted and drop the ball, so if we need to really follow through and not forget what we’re doing with the Mercury/Neptune square, we have to make lists and hold on to the details carefully.

This little taste of Mercury glitches can help notice where we need to tighten up our efforts or repair lines of communication in order to prepare for Mercury retrograde season.  With Venus in sensitive, defensive Cancer right now—notice that people aren’t really fond of criticism, even if it is constructive, and may be seriously in need of an extra hug.

Mars enters talkative Gemini and the Moon enters intuitive Pisces on Monday which can sharpen our sensitivities as the week begins. By the week’s end, an Aries Moon helps us kick into high gear and accomplish a lot in a short period of time. Mars enters talkative Gemini and the Moon enters sensitive Pisces on Monday which can give us an interesting portable restlessness helps us adapt, but rattle our nervous system and sharpen our sensitivities to pollen into each other’s feelings as the week begins. Midweek an Aries Moon helps us kick into high gear and accomplish a lot in a short period of time.

Friday, May 8: Plan, organize, and accomplish on this efficient if slightly grumpy day. This morning, apologize if necessary or repair old wrongs and cleanup karma as the Moon squares the nodes. Take the mission seriously this afternoon as the Capricorn Moon conjuncts Pluto, but don’t believe a wave of discouragement. Do engage the conversation about what is the right use of personal and political power, the question of the decade.

Saturday May 9: Stay in the moment and do the work that needs to be done. Water damage can glitch the system, sleepiness or confusion can fog our morning as Mercury squares Neptune. It’s good to notice weak points and our communication or unfinished business that needs attending to, and deal with it for the rest of the week. Just don’t jump to conclusions. Late afternoon, if we can agree, we can get it done as the Moon squares Mars then enters Aquarius around dinner time; evening is more agreeable and sociable if stubborn. We lighten up this evening as the Moon trines the Sun and can mix business with pleasure, helpfulness with socialization tonight.

Mercury square Neptune 10:08 AM, Moon trine Mars 2:35 PM, then VOC, Moon enters Aquarius 5:21 PM

Sunday, May 10: Social obligations are wonderful but take time, we may both want to socialize and feel a clock ticking and a sense of urgency about tasks that need to be done. We may even have emergencies that need our attention now, even though conditions are confusing. Calmness and focus will help more than anxious busyness. Engage the conversation around brunch time as the Moon trines Mercury, and don’t over schedule or overeat this evening as the Moon opposes Jupiter. Use this expansive Moon to philosophize and get a better overview of the personal situation.

Moon trine Mercury 11:10 AM, Moon opposed Uranus 5:50 PM,

Monday, May 11: This morning can be productive if we get into a groove; people are helpful intentioned, but may miss our cues as the Aquarius Moon squares the Sun. Mars enters Gemini and gives us more flexibility and can make us restless like a tumbling weed. Respiratory systems may grow more sensitive, pollen bother us more as the day goes on and the Moon enters Pisces tonight. People can get a bit touchy and need for personal space. Feel the approach avoidance conflicts, and find a safe and cheerful way to proceed.

Moon square Sun 4:36 AM, then VOC, Mars enters Gemini at 8:40 PM, Moon enters Pisces 8:53 PM, Moon squares Mars at 8:53 PM

Tuesday, May 12: A spacey, intuitive imaginative and vulnerable feeling day as the Moon conjuncts Neptune in Pisces and squares Mercury. Use the more subtle perceptions to refine work, appreciate landscape, or intuit potential. Notice, but don’t give in to, and underlying anxiety which is a result of magnified perceptions. Instead, find a safe way to be sensitive.

Moon squares Saturn at 1:00 AM, Moon trine Venus at 5:15 AM, Moon conjunct Neptune at 1:02 PM, Moon square Mercury at 4:28 PM

Wednesday, May 13: The days may start off slower, more sensitive, maybe even a little homesick. There is healing work to be done as the Moon conjuncts Chiron this morning. We are open to beauty, but may feel the rough-and-tumble edges of life like sandpaper on tender skin. It’s hard to get in there and get our hands dirty, but is a good day to dream and vision and water the plants. Our energy and bravery pickup, and so does our belligerence as the Moon enters Aries late tonight.

Moon conjunct Chiron at 7:51 AM, then VOC, Moon enters Aries at 11:13 PM

Thursday, May 14: This is a good day to explore or break into new territory under an enthusiastic Aries Moon, but a tough day to do boring routine. Midmorning can bring some social glitches, we need to be spacious and look for in tension rather than action. While we are boldly going where we have not gone before, some interesting threads of our past can pluck our heartstrings as Venus squares the nodes. Tonight can overflow with camaraderie as the Moon trines Jupiter, it can also overflow with pugnaciousness if we start to dig in our heels.

The rights of the working people, fresh life and earthy fertility: the Taurus force is strong with us this week. On May 1, May Day, enjoy the natural bounty of the burgeoning life as the lilac and plum trees bloom by cavorting and leaving May baskets on doorsteps. Also celebrate the workers of the world on this International Worker’s Day, the earthy holiday honoring laboring muscle and grit (Labor Day to many countries, though USA celebrates that in Virgo season). On Monday we celebrate Star Wars Day (May the 4th be with you) and Tuesday, Cinco de Mayo, celebrating freedom of the Mexican people.

In this lusty sturdy month of May, under an earthy Taurus Sun and Mars, we can enjoy all of our senses; enjoy our food, the feeling of warm wind on our skin, sunlight, the feeling of working muscles in the garden, and political muscle in the streets and courts. Taurus encourages us to steadily tend to all things earthy, both to walk outdoors, garden, and tend our bodies, but more importantly to reach out with competent and tangible help to people who really need it. This Sun and Mars in Taurus will add steadiness to relief efforts in Nepal, and sturdiness to efforts for egalitarian justice in American cities.

But all is not plum blossom and sunshine. The shadow side of Taurus, intransigent stubbornness, possessiveness and territoriality tug on us. This weekend, a Full Moon in broody resentful or transcendent Scorpio underlines this shadow, one of the most tempestuous and broody Moons of the year.  But the Scorpio Full Moon also brings a certain morbid clear-sightedness.  We can uncover our fears or uncover the true worst-case scenario, and deal with it.

We’ve seen lately that our worst case fears can sometimes be upstaged by reality. This year’s upheaval-triggering astrological aspects, Uranus square Pluto and Saturn square Neptune, are both past their peak but are still working in our culture and on earth’s tectonic plates. Astrologers expect it to stay a politically and geologically active year. We’ve seen the destruction, but this can also be a good thing. Tectonic plates are shifting all the time; when they make lots of little adjustments we feel the change but will barely notice the events. It’s only when the plates get stuck and the little changes build up, or when the plates run into one another, that we have a destructive earthquake. The same pattern goes for our socio-political clashes. The planets chant to us to adjust, shift, flow with one another. That can be hard to do in earthy, rooted, tradition-loving, territorial Taurus season; under stress we tend to go back to our old ways, but we can change, if we have to.

This weekend’s Scorpio Full Moon brings fresh revelations about what’s needed and how we have to help. This could fan the fire of resentment in political hotspots, we become more suspicious and want transparency. Mercury will also be opposed Saturn this weekend and give us extra concentration and focus, for better or worse. It’s a fabulous time to weed the garden or the culture. Just be careful about weeding people.

Strong emotions can roll in like an ocean swell. If this happens, let’s not identify with the story, but acknowledge the feelings and let them flow through, then consider carefully what needs to be done in response.  If we have trouble remembering that balance of joy, comfort and support needed in order to stay engaged, then lustily practical Taurus can help.

Early next week under the Sagittarius Moon we can relax a bit and enjoy the spring. The Sun squares Jupiter which can free us up and help us let go of the chains that tightened on our heart just a day or two ago. Midweek the Sun trines empowering Pluto and stimulates a highly practical and industrious time to build policy and get organized.

Friday, May 1: On this romantic, sensual day with both the Sun and Moon in Venus-ruled signs (Sun in Taurus, Moon in Libra) be friendly and  fertilize the fields in all the symbolic ways. Feel the urge to make things nicer, prettier, and more equitable. We can negotiate for more peaceful solutions in a window of diplomatic flexibility (if we don’t see improvements today, the weekend becomes even more tempestuous). The urge to get out wiggle our toes in the dirt and smell the blossom is strong, and our attention can wander all day. Late afternoon a moody spell can bring our thoughts to the more serious aspects of May Day as the Moon squares Pluto and opposes Uranus.

Moon conjunct North node 1:18 AM, Moon square Pluto 3:08 PM, Moon opposed Uranus 7:53 PM

Saturday, May 2: Morning can be pleasant, sociable and little sybaritic. Breakfast in bed sounds marvelous; the question is who gets up to get it. The day meanders and gives us room for puttering around the beauty of our garden, around questions of fairness and friendliness and egalitarian action. The mood grows sharper, suddenly less forgiving and more demanding or longing tonight as the Moon waxes into Scorpio. If we felt heard and cared for, all is well; if not, watch out.

Moon trine Venus at 8:03 AM, then Moon VOC until Moon enters Scorpio 7:47 PM

Sunday, May 3: Our tails may twitch, our subconscious stirs under the Full Moon. If we see a wild look in their eyes, let’s back off until their inner demons calm down. We can play hardball; a confrontation, once begun, will be hard to drop. It’s a good day to meditate, pray, and get to the roots of weeds or problems. Give everyone a little extra room. Mercury opposes Saturn can make us can increase our possessiveness or worried edges, but also gives us mental durability to concentrate. Or obsess.

Mercury opposed Saturn for 30 4 AM, Moon trine Neptune at 4:02 PM, Moon opposed Sun at 11:42 PM, Moon square Jupiter at 10:05 PM,

Monday, May 4: An emotional high tide can set our chin and get our hackles up, we can be particularly resentful if we feel others are not pulling their own weight or are stepping on our toes or eating our favorite cookie. Watch the tendency to resent as the Sun and Moon square Jupiter, take the opportunity to notice the feeling, let it flow, and look for a new layer of gratitude underneath. Diffuse harsh situations with dark humor respect, and when in doubt, take a break. Early evening can be particularly feisty as the Moon opposes Mars, later evening mellows out. Kiss and make up.

Sun square Jupiter at 3:02 AM, Moon trine Chiron at 11:10 AM, Moon opposed Mars at 7:49 PM, then Moon VOC

Tuesday, May 5: Morning may still be serious but with a more outspoken edge. We may have to define our responsibilities under unusual conditions, or feel we need to reach out to the larger community to help as the Moon and Saturn conjunct in Sagittarius. But the planets can loan us resilience. We can bounce back. People may be more anxious than they seem; if there is a communication glitch this afternoon, look to the worry or confusion beneath.

Moon enters Sagittarius 5:12 AM, Moon conjunct Saturn at 10:37 AM, Moon opposed Mercury at 4:31 PM, Moon square Neptune at 10:47 PM

Wednesday, May 6:  Notice resources and use personal skills and abilities to advantage this morning as the Sun trines Pluto. We understand something about ourselves and others by watching how we allocated our resources of time and stuff. We have an opportunity to build or break down trust in the process. Put restlessness to good use and be on the side of a positive change. Time with children or animals can be good therapy and help us take ourselves less seriously.

Sun trine Pluto at 1:10 AM, Moon trine Jupiter 6:44 AM, Moon trine Uranus at 2:45 PM, Moon square Chiron at 7:08 PM

Thursday, May 7: Relationships need attention but not obsession this morning; we can feel the filaments of love and attachment run between our heart and that of many others as Venus enters Cancer. We may feel pulled between work and caring, between our love and responsibilities to many different people. To feel less stretched thin, let go of what would make them happy and come back to the heart; care, but be honest. We are sufficient.

Moon opposed to Venus at 11:51 AM, Moon enters Capricorn 12:16 PM, Venus enters Cancer 4:51 PM.
