2014 brings a time of external wild adjustment and internal exploration; let’s navigate with both care and with hope. The two planets that shakeup the status quo- Change-agent Uranus and transformative Pluto- continue to trigger metamorphic cultural shifts throughout this year and well into next as they complete 7 era-changing exact squares between 2012 and 2015 (6/12, 9/12, 5/13, 11/13, 4/14, 12/, and 3/15). The world will feel different when this is done.
We can feel the tension between Uranus’ call (now in fresh, brash, reactive Aries) for revolutionarily progressive freedom- and Pluto’ call (now in controlling ambitious Capricorn) to reorganize structure and authority while remembering the old ways. True progress will come in the balance between these divergent pulls.
These two planets last triggered each other when they conjunct between 1964-68. Notice that many ‘60’s cultural hot-spots are now reignited: a longing for an economy based on other vectors than money, a surge of freedom-seeking politics and subsequent efforts to crack down, ecological rights, gay rights, women’s rights, east-west tension, and an apparent split between generations which can be breached though shared goals and radical listening. People with planets in mid-degrees of cardinal signs are now on the front-lines of this metamorphosis, but we’re all in the mix, and all need to stay in there to guide the transformation.
This change is not just political. Saturn in Scorpio challenges us to take this work deep within our souls and do our own homework. From this deep interior work we need to develop a lodestar composed of our most fundamental goals and brightest guiding lights, and keep that lodestar in sight to guide the big and small decisions that will be so urgently demanded from us as we navigate these shifting seas.
To stay healthy we need to maximize our ability to adjust and find our balance will. Although we need to be kind to ourselves and beloveds, and will sympathetic that these are indeed stressful times, we need to choose away from self-pity or enabling relationships. Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces can blur our boundaries, but they also wake up our sense of empathy and connection.
Instead of codependence, let’s work towards a sustainable ecology in our personal relationships, in the wildness outside, and in our flowing economy. We need to balance the needs of all involved so we can move forward together in healthy interdependence. Expect this lesson to be hammered in.
Neptune in Pisces also opens our spiritual hunger to make our connection to the One, hear the Mother’s call stronger. If we feel drained, it will help to bathe in the collective ocean both literally (in water, and working towards global water quality), and metaphorically (dreams, mediumship, spiritual and magical practice). We are not alone.
As 2014 dawns, a conjunction between Pluto, Sun, Moon and Mercury opposes Jupiter and squares both Uranus and Mars reminds us that we mid-transition stage in a societal death and rebirth, and it won’t help to fight the changes. Play it safe these first few weeks, own up to unconscious urges or they may run the show. Feel big forces wrestling and make wise long-range, non-reactive decisions. We may ache for what’s leaving but this can inspire us to do our best. Be kind to one another and alert for a sudden, short call to service.
Mars spends an unusually long time in Venus-ruled Libra (12/9/13-7/28/14), dancing back and forth (retrograde 3/2-5/20) in a grand square with Pluto, Uranus, and Jupiter, inviting us to dance this revolution, to take a creative, heart-centered, egalitarian approach in order to change the paradigm, not just a regime (or just one relationship).
Expansive, abundant, freedom-loving Jupiter in Cancer opposes Pluto and squares Uranus January through June, amping up the speed and depth of change, altering water levels, and singing an intense need for personal and political liberation. Start at home, with family dynamics; walk the talk and encourage everyone’s evolution, even if it’s inconvenient. A booming crop of babies will carry this revolutionary quality forward. Relationships will need breathing room; we need to know we can grow with our beloveds, or the urge for freedom can pull us away.
Spring stays unsettled and blustery, from the end of March through May will be a personally, politically, and geologically active time. Hear the rumble growling in the background and expect the unexpected for the next couple of months. We will be challenged. Any conflict that initiates this spring will have long-ranging consequences. There are so many wildcards in play it’s not useful to predict outcomes (though it may help to look at the transits to our personal chart, as some of us will be in the thick of things, but most of us will be peripheral), but we can clear the ground, get ready, stay involved, and when things get strange, remember what is truly important to us and play for the best possible outcome.
An April 15th lunar eclipse and April 29th solar eclipse (seen in southern hemisphere) ratchet our evolution forward and asking us to, once again, let go what no longer works and embrace new possibilities. April 20 to the 25th, the Mars, Pluto, Uranus and Jupiter grand square perfects and pushes the creative revolution; feel the wheel of fate turning, see evidence of the changing era. We’ll be shaking and moving.
May through June, a helpful grand trine between Jupiter, Saturn and Chiron allows us to make headway through unusual alliances and encourages healthier architecture and economic structure. Work in smaller affinity groups; engage large groups for specific action only, as group process can be unwieldy while we’re all running on inspiration. This aspect does not demand, it offers, we can kick back under its kindness, or use it as an opportunity to make progress.
Jupiter enters Leo July 16th and which can add an element of generous fun to the mix, feeding our creative and romantic efforts powerfully as Jupiter and Venus waltz beautifully together in the early morning sky (peaking 8/17). Our hearts long for more love and more time with our muse, and succor to all women everywhere, but can flare melodramatically when conflicted. Art supplies help. Jupiter in Leo through the next year makes everything larger, more loving, more dramatic, more explosive, and more expansive. Life in hyperbole, but it’s up to us which way this goes.
Jupiter trines Uranus in the fall, peaking 9/25, bringing changes we’ll be ready for, supporting all who go back to school or turn their work towards their bliss. Technological inventiveness can leap forward, leaving us and our equipment feeling out of date. But in this ingenuity may be some solutions for our desperate environmental problems.
Tend to relationships of all kind in September, make sure all is on track, equal, and that dreams are shared, because the Sun squares Pluto and opposes Uranus 10/3- 9, that with eclipses (Moon 10/ 8, Sun 10/23) can dance on our interpersonal tender spots. Let’s do the work together rather than let it wedge us apart. Saturn enters Sagittarius just after the winter solstice and calls us to take our personal work up and out, into the woods, schools, courtrooms and onto the global stage.
